Violent extremism is a phenomenon that exists across all societies and demographics beyond religion or culture lines. But all cases have one thing in common – the justification of hatred. The roots of violent extremism start growing in early childhood. Babies and young children learn how to deal with the world from what they see around them – and if adults around them are regressive, biased and divisive, the kids are bound to learn that as well. To really do away with violent extremism plaguing the world, especially India, the education system would need to change.

UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP), a Category One Research Institute of UNESCO in New Delhi, is working on the Prevention of Violent Extremism through Education (PVE-E) by focusing on the youth and providing them valuable skills that would help them do away with such social evils……………………………
