“Eleven-year-old Nari Luhar of Ganeshpur VDC, Dadeldhura district accompanies her mother every Monday to break stones in areas along the nearby highway.
Like Nari, around 2,000 children of freed Hailya (bonded plowman) families have been deprived of basic education in Dadeldhura district.
These school-age children have to help support their families. One child earns Rs 200 to Rs 300 a day breaking stones.
According to Bhim Rasaili, monitoring officer for the regional office of INSEC, the NGO, many children of the freed Haliya remain out of school though they have been included in school admission records.”
