Forum Against Commercialisation of Education (FACE) has called for a meeting of all the social organisations in the city at 5pm on Thursday at BD Bhalekar High School to discuss the state-wide survey that is being conducted by the civic administration on July 4 to locate children not attending school.

Administrative officer of the education committee Umesh Dongre, along with the social organisations working in the field of education, the parents-teachers associations (PTAs) and senior citizens, will be present at the meet.

A day-long survey is to be conducted throughout the state for locating children in the age group of 6-14 years who are not going to school or those who are school dropouts, on July 4 from 7 am to 7 pm. The survey will be carried out door-to-door as well as in all public places. A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the municipal commissioner and many social organisations have come forward to help.

“Children who are not going to school continuously for more than month are also included among those who have not taken admission in school, those who have taken admission but do not go to school and school dropouts,” said Milind Wagh, an office-bearer of FACE.

“There are many such children across the state who don’t attend school and it is not just the responsibility of the government but also the society at large to make them to attend school,” said Wagh.
