While most children in the city will mark Children’s Day in school on Friday, Radha, a school dropout, who estimates her age to be around 12, will spend her day under an MRTS bridge in the city.

Despite the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, which covers children in the 6-14 age group, and laws against child labour, challenges remain.

Seated on a plank of wood on the roadside, Radha says she dropped out of school and moved to Chennai from Dindigul around three months back.
